Bicycle Bowling Green (Bike BG) is a group of volunteers dedicated to building a bicycle-friendly community in Bowling Green, Ky. We are registered as a Kentucky non-profit organization.
We organized the city’s first successful Bike Summit in 2008. More than 100 people attended to hear speakers including Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson, a major bike advocate. The summit solidified a commitment to making Bowling Green a bicycle-friendly community recognized by the League of American Bicyclists.
We applied for national Bicycle-Friendly Community status in 2008 and received an Honorable Mention. That means we have made some progress, but we have a lot of work left to do.
Bike BG organizes its work around the “5 E’s” used by the League of American Bicyclists. These are:
- Encouraging people to ride more
- Educating cyclists and drivers
- Engineering new bike facilities, like bike paths and lanes
- Enforcing laws related to cycling
- Evaluating our progress and planning for the future
We welcome individual, family and organizational members. Please see our membership application for more information.
